Sarah Campbell

An internationally acclaimed textile designer, Sarah Campbell was the co-founder of the renowned design partnership Collier Campbell with her sister Susan Collier; they worked together for more than fifty years.

Since Susan's early death in 2011, Sarah has worked independently, and has successfully established a new chapter in her creative story.

Verve, love of pattern and colour, and inventive freshness are the hallmarks of all Sarah Campbell’s work. Whatever the project she uniquely combines her expertise and experience with originality and joy, both serious and playful.

With a lifetime in pattern she is constantly developing her skills and design language, marrying the hand-painted, for which she's justly known, with new digital technology where needed.

Alongside her continuing commercial collaborative design practice with stores such as Liberty’s, Marks & Spencer’s, Laura Ashley, and West Elm, she undertakes private commissions - curtains and blinds have been especially painted, along with clothing, clockfaces and customized walking sticks!

She is a speaker and tutor in design, runs workshops and is involved in education at several levels, from mentoring textile graduates to volunteering in her local schools.

She is the author of a diverting blog reflecting on the world as she sees it.

She is also the co-author of 'The Collier Campbell Archive: 50 Years of Passion in Pattern' (published 2012) and the many designs, paintings and treasures in the archive collection, which dates from the early 1960s, remain within the family.

Archive Designs Revisited
The original archive collection of designs is extensive; one of the most notable and original patterns is Cote d'Azure, first painted in 1983 and licensed then as a pattern for furnishing fabric. Sarah has used it as the source for other product developments recently ? so far most notably on scarves. Many of the patterns can be revisited as source material, their use developed and extended.

Collaborations
For the past several years Sarah Campbell has been working with one of the most successful and distinguished homewares stores in the USA - West Elm. Together they have produced many designs on fabrics, rugs, bedding, boxes, tables, ceramics and wall art. Other notable collaborations have been with Magpie Line and Habitat, when Sarah was asked to design a rug to celebrate their 50th birthday.

Handpicked
Sarah's still life and floral paintings are a joy.

Table Talk
Originally created as a fabric collection for Michael Miller fabrics, Table Talk is a bright and vibrant series that would work on any number of products - ceramics, stationery, kitchen textiles.
